Peaches spins Lee's Right Round

Peaches treats the Lee's Palace audience to some champagne
I have added another notch to my Peaches belt.

Last week my Google cellphone suggested that I might be interested in the fact that Peaches was playing at Lee's Palace. Some might say that it's creepy for my phone to know me so well, but I'm willing to have a robot scour my search queries and perhaps this very blog to learn about my love of Peaches and warn me of an upcoming show.

Peaches is the kinda that you wanna
What a show! I have seen her almost a dozen times and her performance has constantly evolved. In the beginning she sang to music played off her minidisc recorder. Now she is a full-fledged DJ and raps to her own tracks mixed in with other bumping filler. If she has a signature DJ move, it's adjusting knobs with her ass to the audience like this picture below.

It was a short set, but she hit most of her career points, the crowed responded the loudest to Kick-It (probably recognizing it from that Sumo Subaru commercial) For the encore Peaches climbed into a giant penis costume and proceeded to pull a white-semen scarf from the tip like a naughty magician.

Scott Pilgrim Flip Video

I ordered this customized Flip UltraHD 8GB Video Camera. I need this thing for a bunch of reasons. I have opportunities to take videos people want to see, and I want to present those videos in the best quality possible.

The amount of cool things going on in this city, I need to be able to capture HD video at a moments notice. I want to do interviews and produce some video blogs. My Youtube page should be really bumping in a few weeks.

Imagine if I had taken this video of Jack White here in Toronto with a better camera?

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Hard Sell

Normally I would avoid a blatant sales pitch here on my blog but I'm making an exception for a movie I really love. This is also probably the last chance I will have to write about Scott Pilgrim, so I'm taking it.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is out now on BluRay/DVD combo pack, so you don't have to miss out if you are still rocking a dvd player (VHS users can go eat a day-old bag o' dicks). Both discs are loaded with special features, deleted scenes and commentaries. If you loved it in theatres, buy it. If you missed it in theatres BUY IT! If you trust my judgement in regards to film then please make this purchase you will not regret. Edgar Wright is a great filmmaker and has created a fantastic movie that truly is a treat for the eyes and ears, that you will enjoy for years to come.

I got mine, get yours!

The Scott Pilgrim screenplay I should not have

"You Shouldn't have this, Edgar Wright"
"Wooow! Find this scene on BluRay, Elen Wong XO"
Bryan Lee O'Mally, circles the "L-word" scene
Edgar, Ellen and Bryan at HMV Toronto
I just got back from the Scott Pilgrim signing at HMV. Creator Bryan Lee O'Mally, Director Edgar Wright,  and actress Ellen Wong were autographing items for fans to promote the BluRay release on Tuesday. Edgar recognized me and jokingly wagged his finger when I gave him a copy of the screenplay to sign, knowing that I acquired it from a mutual friend. Fans in line got a coupon to save 10$ on the disc and they also received a pass to an exclusive Q&A screening of the film that will take place at the Bloor Cinema this evening.

I met a cool film student named Andrew in line, while behind us I witnessed the most overt display of geek douchiness I have ever seen by a guy dressed as Dr. Who pontificating loudly on a variety of nerd-related subjects.

Memere on the Mend

My trip to Washington was almost sidelined as my Memere had complications after hip replacement surgery. My aunts and uncles all came to Toronto fearing the worst. I was prepared to stay in Toronto but my dad, who came overnight from Montreal insisted I go. I'm glad I did, but I'm even happier that my Memere is on the mend.

I went to see her at Sunnybrook last night and she was so much better than when we saw her Friday morning. My Matante Fran was there with Uncle Gary (they flew in from England) and Pepere. We went back to the hotel to let her get some rest and we had some beers and chatted.

On my way back home I ran into my childhood friend Jordan (Jordie) who I haven't seen since Christmas. Then on the subway I ran into Peter, a well-known Toronto film-aficionado. We chatted about the Scott Pilgrim screening at the Bloor tomorrow and the upcoming showing of The Wizard at the Underground. I love Toronto.

Scott Pilgrim goes to the Bloor Cinema (Well he does live in the Annex!)

Edgar Wright announced a return to the Bloor Cinema, for a free screening of his epic Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World on November 5th.
Scott Pilgrim Vs the World [Blu-ray]

"To say thank you to the fans who have supported us and thank you to the residents of Toronto who put up with a lot of fake snow, I am very excited to be coming back to Bloor & Bathurst for a one off special screening. Join me, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Toronto’s home town badass Ellen Wong first at HMV and then the Bloor on November 5th." Edgar said on his blog.

The poster was done by creator Bryan Lee O'Malley, I'm guessing we can get one when we pre-order at HMV(with some autographs!).This event promises to make Aint it cool News talkbackers even more jealous of my Sweet Toronto. Can't wait to see Edgar again and I hope his brother Oscar comes too.

So that happened.

Ian and I saw Flash Gordon at the Toronto Underground Cinema, as part of Edgar Wright's Wright Stuff program. It was not as bad as I had expected, still very camp but not bad. Afterwards we went out for beers.

This was a very cool night. I had a fucking awesome time.

Scott Pilgrim Vs Toronto

Jason Schwartzman, Michael Cera and Edgar Wright

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is fucking great! I saw the Toronto premiere at the Elgin, thanks to my good friend Ian. When it was over I felt like I had just spent 8 hours in the basement playing Super NES, sure that a seizure was around the corner. It was so fast-paced. If you were born in the 80's you have to see this movie. I will write a better review opening weekend, but I'm drunk now and need sleep.

Of course I went to the party afterwards at the Courthouse. It was fucking awesome! Kid Koala was performing on stage all night, a true master of turntableism. I'm a huge fan and I told him just that while he was with Bryan Lee O'Mally (the creator of Scott Pilgrim).  I spoke with Edgar Wright and congratulated him on the excellent movie. Ian introduced me to Michael Cera, he was such a nice guy. I saw Edgar later while I was getting a drink and I realized I was literally brushing shoulders with one of the hottest directors in Hollywood, I kind of laughed to myself a little.

I am so glad to see all that work and creative energy all those talented people put in has resulted in such a fantastic film. SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD AUGUST 13TH

I am not Willie Nelson or Pee Wee Herman

I took the Go bus back into town so I can finally sleep in my bed again. I don't sleep well on the futon in Moms basement. I had two crazy dreams last night:

In the one dream I was Willie Nelson, at first I was watching the events unfold from a third person view but I wasn't in it I was just seeing it happen, but quickly it became first person and I was WILLIE NELSON! Sheriffs were going though my house and found a marijuana roach in the backyard. I think I was kind of shocked that was all they found, being Willie Nelson.

The I woke up and went right back to sleep for the next dream:

I'm backstage at Pee Wee Herman's Broadway show, and I have agreed to be Pee-Wee's understudy, but I don't know my lines and just before going on I panic.

The new Scott Pillgrim trailer is out:

It's a better cut than the first trailer, more actioney.

Your Mine Scott Pilgrim!

I took the Go bus back downtown. Mom's place was great but I need a shave!

I met up with Hollywood. His new job starts tomorrow so he's got a car. We drove around for a bit and picked up a few groceries. He gave me all five Scott Pilgrim books. These books are awesome, and I think everyone should check them out before the movie comes out (August, maybe?).

I also now have this stack of DVDRs that prove Love Guru wasn't a total waste of time. I have to go through them rip them and upload them somewhere not youtube.

Jason Reitman On Scott Pilgrim

Jason Reitman (Juno, Up In The Air) tweeted about a sneak he got at next summers Scott Pilgrim VS. The World:

"In London, @edgarwright showed me 30min of Scott Pilgrim. While sworn to secrecy (so much, surprised blood wasn't demanded) I will say this:It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It moves the speed of light and carries more unadulterated joy than Ive seen in recent cinema. >SP does what everyone our age has been dreaming about: achieves the first all encompassing film of the joystick generation. I'm in awe of the sheer control in the filmmaking. It feels like a "Matrix" for love and how willing we are to fight for it.If I had a movie coming out next year, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it. Hats off my friend. Can't get it out of my head."

Jennifer's Body World Premiere

Today was the opening of the Toronto International Film Festival, and my first movie was a Midnight Madness presentation: Jennifer's Body, a teen horror flick starring super hot Meghan Fox (apparently she has hideous thumbs, but who noticed?). My reason for going is I love Diablo Cody, the writer. This is only her second film, but Juno was so fantastic and I'm such a fan I just had to see her new work.

Jennifer's Body is a horror/black comedy about the popular girl getting all the boys(and then eating them). It was a very enjoyable flick, the young actors were really good, especially Johnny Simmons(Young Neil in Scott Pilgrim). Meghan Fox is damn sexy, but the attention she gets from people for being hot is kind of sickening(so many flashbulbs going off when she was on stage!).

Diablo's dialogue is fantastic and has a style all her own.

After the screening, I went up to the stage and caught Diablo just before she got off, she was awesome and stopped to autograph my copy of Juno, so cool of her.

I love Tiff!

Scott Pilgrim Snows in July

Scott thinks all Second Cup exteriors lead into the same interior, and in film-making, it does.
I was reminded to check out the Scott Pilgrim shoot down the street from my place. Second Cup plays heavily in the movie, along with some other prominent Toronto locals. The movie takes place over two weeks in the end of winter, thus fake snow and white sheeting in July.I took these 2 photos and then was asked to leave by a mustached douche. I guess I attracted too much attention with my Youtube shirt (He must have thought I was the internet).

This movie is going to be cool.

Watchmen, Pontypool, Scott Pilgrim

Today was loaded start to finish. Working off a tip received from Paolo the night before, I looked into Scott Pilgrim Extras casting, which was going on today. I went to the studio, filled out a form and posed for a picture. Under special skills I wrote "I am a professional concert goer, I have seen The Smashing Pumpkins 10 times". to which the dude laughed. I called Ian afterwards to see if he could grease the wheels at all(this is Hollywood we are talking about). Hopefully I can rock out to some Sex Bob-omb for the next few months, make some cash, work on a movie and literally become CONCERT GUY!

On the way back I talked to Paul. Checked the Scotiabank Theatre for Watchmen Imax, sold out all day. I was going to get Paul down but didn't, then saw the movie anyways, on a regular screen, and free since the woman did not properly do her job.

Ran home for two quick bowls.

Enjoyed the movie immensely. I could not believe some people brought small children to see it since it was completely inappropriate. Bad fucking parenting.

Home for dinner, burrito supreme, I miss real burritos from the Mission. I'm going crazy to go back to California. Ian called, it's Pontypool's big opening weekend too!

Ian picked me up and we rolled through traffic blazing. I picked up the tickets and got us some seats.

Loved the movie for the second time. Go see it and support a great Canadian film.

We ended up going out for beers with a buch of Scott Pilgrim crew. Cool fucking people for sure.

Great Day.
