Me and granny at the movies.

I went to the movies with my grandma. I met her at broadview and helped her navigate to the theatre. We saw the shape of water. It's the 5th time I have seen it and it gets me every time. My brother Marc worked on it and it was cool to point out his credit to her as it crawled up the screen. We had some food afterwards at milestones. The burger was forgetable but looked good when it hit the table. I'm posting the photo because you Can see my grandma stealing my fries before trying her soup. We talked about the movie a lot. It was an awesome time.

Granny get Well

I worked a half day so that I could go visit my Granny Mo. She is a great lady and always there for her family. Lately she isn't feeling well. She says she's had a cough since January, damn. We chatted about my work and stuff while she knitted a bear and Seinfeld episodes played marathon-style on mute. We would eventually succumb and turn the volume up on the tv, cause Grandma wanted to know what was happening in "The Contest".

I usually take a picture of my grandma and I together, but she was feeling so crappy I didn't ask. This is a picture of us from August when we had Ramen.

I'm off work tomorrow, the plan is to do some cleaning. I would also like to get out of the house and do some writing, maybe take some pictures.

Hug your granny if you canny

My Gmo and Me

What a busy day. I was out taking care of business and didn't get home unti the evening.
I went to the library to pick up a book I had placed on hold. It was this amazing book by Guillermo Del Toro called Guillermo del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions , comprised of selections from his personal notebooks, sketches, writings, neat stuff. You can check it out at the amazon link below(at a good price too). Or go to the library like I did, for free.

I had a dentist appointment for a filling on a molar. My dentist is great. He told me to floss more so he wouldn't have to work so hard on a Friday. Afterwards I realized I missed a good opportunity to take a selfie, next time.

I did manage to take a picture of my granny and me at Tim Hortons. I haven't been able to hang out with her since I started my job. She was supposed to take an ipad art class this month, but it was canceled when not enough people signed up. She is pretty bummed out about that.

I'm going skating tomorrow, I can't wait!

20 years of Batmobiles

Me in front of the Bat Tumbler from Dark Knight Rises 2012
I love Batman. I have followed his silver screen adventures with feverish interest since my auntie Chrissy showed me Tim Burton's 1989 version when it came to VHS. I was even overly enthusiastic about the Joel Shumacher films, knowing the character deserved better but happy just to have him on the big screen.
Me and the Batmobile from
Batman Returns back in 1992

This polaroid cost me 10$ at the CNE back in 1992. I knew the Batmobile would be there thanks to a vague map. My grandma and I were the all over the fair grounds looking for it. My hand is recoiled because the photographer snapped "DON'T TOUCH THE CAR!" at me as he snapped the picture.

So twenty years later, when I found out the Tumbler from the upcoming Dark Knight Rises was going to be at Yonge/Eglington I had to put it on my to-do list.

My grandma turned 78 today and my mom held a very nice dinner party for her. Paul and I took the GO bus to Mississauga andI decided to stay over to watch the new episodes of Mad Men (Mom has cable).

Time to bake the Metropasses

Sunny J (me) is turning 30, not 2. (photo:@ondre)
I'm up real early on a Monday, still unemployed but keeping busy. I'm heading over to the CNIB to help distribute TTC metropasses to blind Torontonians. It's not a magnanimous gesture, I benefit greatly from the pass myself. I also believe that it is my civic responsibility to put back in what I've taken out.

Last night my mom had a fantastic Birthday dinner for me. I turn 30 on Wednesday. She made a meaty lasagna and a vegetarian option for our herbivore guests. As requested she also picked up a black forrest cake. My friend Shawna came all the way to Missisauga, along with my cousin Treya, her husband @Ondre and their little monkey Lula. My Granny Mo & Andy were there and so was my brother Paul. We even phoned my brother Marc who is over in France snowboarding. I got some great gifts, my auntie Chrissy gave me a bad-assed Venom luchador mask and the Kick-Ass graphic novel. Paul gave me a wii controller and a gift card with enough credit for a copy of the new Zelda game (everywhere he checked for it was sold out). I'm going to spend some serious time playing that game. It was such a great night.

Gmo Monday!

I went shopping with my Granny Mo today. I got a pair of black New Balance shoes for working at the Lightbox. My dress shoes are just too uncomfortable to stand in for long periods. I have a few shifts this week so I'm glad to have good comfy shoes. We went to lunch at Baton Rouge, it was a little pricey, but Gmo loved the soup. She thinks she's been getting really old really fast. She has to take a lot of breaks to sit down and I cant really walk slow enough for her, I don't mind slowing down. I'm lucky I get to spend time with her. Her questions can be frustrating. Sometimes she wants me to elaborate on Yes or No answers.

My buddy Ian started working on reshoots, so he has a production vehicle again. We went for an evening drive. I love rolling around the city with Ian. We just talk movies and the conversation is always so enthralling.

blog four nine nine

It's Howard Stern's 56th birthday!

I helped out with the CNIB Metropass distribution again, this time at the Grenadier Retirement Community. It was slow and boring. Being around all those old people made me want to hang out with Granny Mo, she called today and we're going to meet up tomorrow morning after her computer lesson at the Mac store.

I watched the first episode of the new Kids In the Hall series, Death comes to Town. I was not impressed, but I want to reserve judgement till I see the second episode next week.

It's my birthday next week, I don't expect you to get me anything but if you did wouldn't this be awesome!?!

This EL Wire pack would be kick ass, and can be found here. It would come in handy for Burning Man (maybe even Igloofest).

A Christmas Carol & a "personal injury at track level"

I went to Yonge/Eglington to meet Granny Mo, we missed each other the day before, one of us was late. So this time we had all the bugs worked out, except the movie wasn't playing at Silvercity anymore. I suggested we go to the AMC downtown, so we hopped on the TTC. On the way south, the train announced a "personal injury at track level at Dundas", and our train would stop at Bloor and head north. We got off at Bloor and I managed to navigate us through the throng of diverted passengers. We made it to the street corner and caught the first shuttle bus down.

Lots of police at Yonge/Dundas, and they were putting someone in an ambulance. I have tried to find some more information, but the TTC cloak of secrecy has been dropped over the whole situation. I found this at the National Post. It's shameful that we are kept in the dark, but the TTC doesn't want to talk about suicide. LET'S PRETEND NOTHING HAPPENED!

Besides all that crap, Granny and I had a great time at the movie.

Disney's A Christmas Carol is the classic holiday story told with the most modern computer animation available. Robert Zemeckis, director of my all time favourite Back to the Future 2 continues on his quest to push mo-cap and 3d forward, and it looks so much better than Polar Express (the people look a lot less wooden this time arround). Jim Carrey is fun, but nowhere near the top of his game. Go see it if you need some Christmas spirit.

We went back up to Eglington to meet Andy for dinner. The trains were running again. We had a nice meal at The Pickle Barrel, but it couldn't hold a candle to last Friday's dinner. We went to Genghis Khan's Mongolian Grill. That place was fantastic. I had so much fun, I'm still smiling about it. I can't wait to go back again.

Cali in my mind

I had a dream last night that I had booked a flight to San Francisco, and then I missed it. I was jumping through the airport like Super Mario, trying to make it even though I was already hours late. My Granny Mo ran along side me with her husband Andy, both of them wanted to see me to the gate and were doing all the jumps and flips it would take to get there. The plane was still there, but I woke up before I could get on.

Mike is here!

Ran out of shakes so I had toast with peanut butter, two boiled eggs and a glass of milk for breakfast. You have to eat breakfast.

I went to meet Granny Mo at the Eaton Centre after her lesson at the Apple Store. That's early, like I had to be up at 8am to meet her at 9. That's early for me. You have a job and no sympathy for me. I love getting juice with her and chatting. We made plans to go to the Toronto International Film Festival in September. I am excited because I would be going anyway, and with G-mo going too it will be more fun(and I can't really afford to go). I know it seems a little weird, but my Granny is super cool. She can enjoy movies you wouldn't expect an older lady to like. We watched Team America together last year(She laughed!).

I think Kevin Smith's new movie Zack & Miri Make a Porno will premiere at Tiff08.

I went back to the Condo with G-Mo(That's where Grammy lives) to get some shakes. Grandma got me started on these milkshakes for breakfast, and it really changed my life. Not the shakes so much as eating breakfast.

On the bus back from Grandma's house, I got a call from Mike W. my best friend. Back from California to attend his girlfriend's sisters wedding. I hurried back downtown. We went for coffee, and then went to get a suit (We drove to the mall in Mike's sweet pimped/rented ride).

We got beers and food and good times.

looks like we are taking his sweet ride to Timmins next week. Road trip!

No gym today, I didn't know I would be hanging out with Mikey. My muscles need to be stressed serious tomorrow.

Bed time.
